Day Rate Case Study: Stay Here

The beauty of day-rate style projects is that they’re 100% catered to the specific needs of each client. This is the second post of this series where we give you an inside look into what we were able to accomplish during a design intensive! For this project, our client’s goals were to:

  1. Give the brand a fresh new logo and an updated color and type palette
  2. Do a quick update on the aesthetic of her website to fit the new brand standards
  3. Create some design templates and collateral pieces so she had the tools she needed to carry that new brand feel into every aspect of her work!

Let’s take a look at what we were able to accomplish in two days of work.

Note: Your day rate might look different from this & the timing + deliverables will NOT always align with this – so take it with a grain of salt! However, hopefully this gives an idea of what the logistics of a day can look like, as well as how the process works.

DAY 1

We started the first day off by solidifying the brand feel with a mood board and color palette. This is how we start most of our design projects to ensure we are on the same page with our client’s vision and so we can refer back to the mood board as we continue with the design work.

Our awesome client was head over heels with this design direction which always is such a treat. This was her response:

With her approval on the aesthetic direction and color palette, we started into the brand design. We created a logo and some brand marks as well as explored a few typography options and started creating some layout standards. We got super close with the first version we sent, then worked back and forth on solidifying the accent font, slightly tweaking the color palette and adding in some textural elements for depth and visual interest. By just a few hours into the day we had solidified the branding! Here’s what we landed on:

With the branding design and brand standards solidified, we started into the next highest priority item which was designing a template for a pitch deck! We wanted to ensure we still had time for the other items our client wanted to tackle, so we prioritized designing the most important pages as well as creating some layouts that could be repurposed and used in multiple ways. Here is a selection of the layouts we created:

As the day wrapped up, we quickly formatted an Instagram profile photo as well as a couple graphics our client could use to announce her new branding.

DAY 2

For the second day, we started out by jumping into the website refresh. We were able to update typography, colors, and photos to bring a fresh vibe to the site without taking too much time away from other items that our client wanted to accomplish. Here’s a peek at the updates we made!

We then switched gears and created lots of versatile Instagram templates in Canva for our client to use to keep her feed’s aesthetic consistent and on-brand.

With just a couple hours left in our day, we completed a few remaining items to tie everything together like a YouTube cover banner, Instagram highlight covers, an updated cover for a previously designed ebook, and a couple more graphics.
