What does SEO mean?

SEO stands for search engine optimization. Basically, it’s the way we tell Google (and other search engines) what our website is about so that they can serve our site to their users that are searching for our topic. SEO is the way that we communicate the specifics of our site topics.

SEO can be done through MANY different avenues. Here are 3 simple ways to optimize your site to help search engines know what your site is about so that you can rank higher.

1) Start a Blog:

A blog is great for many reasons (including SEO). A blog helps customers get to know your brand and your products through more in depth descriptions than what is listed on your products or services pages. Through your blog a potential client or customer can fully understand what the experience will be like.

A blog is also expands the number of pages a potential client can land on to find you. The more opportunities to find you, the better. Having a new blog post (or two) each week allows your clients more opportunities to find you site and buy a product or service. More blog posts means more keywords to rank for.

2) Use Google to find relevant keywords:

Finding keywords on Google is a simple way to find terms that people are already searching for and popular. To do this, simply go to Google’s homepage and type a phrase you *think* potential customers would use to find your site or business. For example, if you are an interior designer in Austin, Texas, you might try “interior designer Austin.” Then, scroll to the bottom of the results page and see the related terms. This list is chalk full of keywords that you need to incorporate on to your site.

3) Links to your site:

Another great way to optimize your site is to have other, more reputable sites link to yours. Google loves linking like this so finding good websites to link to your site is a great way to increase your ranking. Having bloggers that have tried your product, people that have visited your store front, or news articles talking about your business are all great ways to increase your links.
